I don’t know, I think it was more of a device in the script to show that Captain Epic is sensitive towards nature and all creatures, be it human or beast.  I think this was a moment to show the world that he truly embodies the Canadian Values of respect for nature and one another (after all, he was apologizing to the bird for occupying the roof).  But none the less, I do agree that there’s gotta be more layers than have been let on so far.  I’m moreso wondering what Captain Epic and that French ninja were talking about at the funeral.  Anyone got some spare time that’s good at French?

Captain Epic is too busy being strong to really engage an audience. A character that “heroic” is not very interesting to watch. He saves the world, he’s good, he’s humble, and he loves Canada more that Kim. Yes, we all get it.

But where is the struggle? Where are those inner demons? (Btw, bringing Canada’s Supers together in one city doesn’t constitute a demon). This character can be good. But he’s got to have some flaws, otherwise he’s just plain boring. No one will ever able to identify with him.

How is it that Captain Epic does not have demons? He has been dumped into a very delicate situation with the shield’s death. He’s been forced to put a team together and deal with whatever comes his way.
Furthermore, if he’s been around for a while, why isn’t he as well known as the Canadian Shield? It’s clear that he doesn’t know who to trust, since he’s being lead around by a villain in disguise. He’s trying to be a leader and take the place of the Shield, while it’s clear he has no idea how to do so.

Similarly to Superman, if you feel that it’s your responsibility to ‘save the world’ or ‘save Canada’, you’re going to have a huge amount of struggle in attempting to do so. In this instance, Captain Epic has the flaws I think you felt were missing.

Gotta agree with Supergrrrl on this one.

And while I can understand that “saving Canada” is a hurdle, it’d be nice to see him crack under the pressure… if only a little.

I don’t think that the Captain’s demons are so much a question of him snapping under pressure as him having obsessions.  We already know that he’s obsessed with anything Canadian as well as “the Canadian way”.  Also, he continuously talks about the Shield and his set of ideals.  Could it be that his pre-occupation with his patriotism and his mentor are distracting him from other important things.  Sure it caused him to gather heroes from all over Canada, but he’s clearly unable to commit to Kim under the circumstances of constant danger (a la Spiderman and Mary Jane).  And what about his obsession with Chromos.  It appears he’s become so obsessed with doing what’s right that he’s completely blinded himself and the team to the fact that Bernard is their greatest adversary.  I agree that these demons could be a little clearer, but I wouldn’t say that he’s without.

You know, if his weakness lies in obsession, that would make him a very interesting character, since most Villains become so because of their obsessions....
